Unusual octagonal door panel, with number - the client had a replacement door made to the original pattern.  We remove the stained glass from the old door, took it apart and rebuilt it replacing the broken glass.  We fitted it into the new door behind a protective panel of glass...

Stained glass house number – Streatham, SW16

This design is based on the original pattern used in this road, but using one of our permanent flashed glass number, where the numerals aren't simply painted onto the surface of the glass.  There are other examples of this type of stained glass numbers and lettering.  The coloured glass is mostly English Muffle.

Stained glass house number fanlight – ‘Ealing Rose’

Modeled on the pattern of the ersatz stained glass triple glazed ‘ealing rose’ units that are around, this is a traditionally made panel with number.   The number isn’t simply painted - its made from white flashed glass - clear glass with a very thin layer of white opal glass fused onto one side when it was made. The white flash is then sandblasted away to form the actual numerals, and then filled with a permanent black resin.

A set of 3 coloured leaded glass panels for the door and fanlight – we spent a lot of time working with our client as well as visiting the joinery contractor who was making the door, to ensure everything would work together.  We were all very pleased with the final result.  Our client noted: ‘The door looks amazing, I am really happy with it. It has totally transformed the house for me and I have received 4 compliments already and sure there will be plenty more.  Thank you again and Im glad I came to you to get it done :-)’

The door panels are set behind laminated glass.

Stained glass house number fanlight, Clapham

This replaced plain glass over the door, and was to a pattern to generally reflect the original glass in the street, slight simplified.  The number itself is not painted - its made from a piece of white flashed glass - clear glass with a very thin layer of white opal glass fused onto the back - which is then sandblasted away to form the actual numerals, and then filled with a permanent black resin.  The pastel colours are all in English Muffle glass.

The original opening casement was removed to increase the area available for the new leaded glass panel, which was designed to complement the existing glass in the door.  It seemed wasteful to dump the wooden casement, so it was stripped and a hanging, shelved mirror created to fill the space - upcycling!.

An example of a number in a leaded glass panel using the traditional ‘pub window lettering approach’ with the numerals being made from individual pieces of white flashed opal glass.  Our client commented: ‘Thank you again for my lovely window. I am very pleased.’

New stained glass front door set – Streatham

We made and fitted the topmost panel and the 2 main panels here to a pattern common in the street, to replace plain glass.  The house name, selected by the client, and the number are made from clear glass with a very thin layer of white glass fused onto the back, which is then sandblasted away and filled by hand with a permanent black resin.  This is a further example of this technique for numbers and lettering on glass.

Stained glass house number – Greenwich, SE10

This striking panel replaced plain glass, and we worked closely with our client to get both the pattern and the glass colours they liked.  The cranberry colour is quite unusual (and quite costly!).  The number is specially produced from flashed opal glass, sandblasted and filled on the reverse with permanent resin.

Stained glass front door set Croydon

This set of 3 new stained glass door panels was commissioned in 2 parts – the main door panels were fitted in August 2012, and the top leaded glass number panel in November.

Stained glass, Beckenham

Neither of these 2 main panels in the door were very well fitting, a painted piece was broken and some of the glass was unsympathetic to the rest, presumably from previous restoration work.  The damaged door panel was rebuilt and both fitted behind new laminated safety glass.  The top panel with the number is new, designed to blend with the door panels.  All panels have steel support rods.

Croydon new and restored stained glass

One of the 2 main door panels had suffered a number of broken pieces - both were removed and restored and re cemented and polished.  The number panel is new, based on the design of the other glass.  This series of photos illustrates just now different the glass looks depending on the side its viewed from, and the available light.  Fitted October 2011

Stained glass restoration

This panel was part of a number of package of glass work in a major refurbishment project.  There was some cracked glass in the panel, and it has become quite loose, as the cement securing the glass in the lead had deteriorated with age.  It was removed, disassembled and rebuilt with new lead, replacing the broken glass.  At the same time it was decided to insert a traditionally executed glass number in the centre.  The panel is secured to a central vertical rod for extra stability.

Stained glass house number

This number panel was commissioned as a wedding gift and the detail of the pattern based on a glass lampshade already in the house.  The numerals are in a white flashed opal glass, a very pale green glass being used in this area to add interest.

New stained glass door panels, Beckenham

This pair of leaded glass door panels are based on other glass in the property, adjusting the colours to maximise the light.  They have support bars installed into the frame on the inside to which the panels are secured for extra stability.

We also supplied and fitted the sandblasted panel over the door with the number.  Laminated glass was used for extra strength.

Our clients comment was ‘Many thanks…looks fantastic!’

Stained glass number panel, Wallington, SM6

Uses the really striking aquamarine Corella glass, Red Moss and white flashed opal – same basic palette as the Deco Style London Southbank design.  The uncoloured glass is in a reproduction of the traditional small Flemish pattern glass.  Numerals in an Arial derivative.

Scottish stained glass design, Ladywell, SE13

Thistle design with complementary number panel, main panels fitted behind laminated safety glass (not shown in these photos).  Uses 4 restrained pastel colours for the main areas as well as lavender English muffle glass for the border of the number panel, with the numerals in white flashed opal glass.

Dulwich Village stained glass door panles

A quite simple but effective set of panels, with a pale green border, to meet our client's requirement to have the house number in the door (as do other houses in the street) but without too much complexity. Clear pieces in Corella glass. Execution of the numerals in white glass provides for maximum legibility.  Fitted in September 2010.
