Large leaded windows

This pair of widows on adjacent staircase landing levels are in 5 tints of English Muffle glass with 100mm amber glass roundels – the glass echoes the rest of the windows in the house. The larger of these panels is 2.5m tall.  They are fitted behind double glazed units pre-installed by the main contractors.  The thicker horizontal lines are from support bars, installed where the sections join – they are too big to be made in one piece (the smaller window is in 2 pieces and the larger in 3).  In addition to the bars there are internal supports, set between the edge of the glass and the lead.

Fitted in October 2014.

Stained glass house number fanlight, Clapham

This replaced plain glass over the door, and was to a pattern to generally reflect the original glass in the street, slight simplified.  The number itself is not painted - its made from a piece of white flashed glass - clear glass with a very thin layer of white opal glass fused onto the back - which is then sandblasted away to form the actual numerals, and then filled with a permanent black resin.  The pastel colours are all in English Muffle glass.

New stained glass, Catford

The original glass in this door and side panels has been replaced with imitation leaded glass (where the pattern and colour are applied to a single sheet of glass by means of stick-on lead strips and coloured lacquers) which was both faded and broken.  We prepared a design based on the original which our client had previously researched.  The set was fitted behind laminated glass for security and extra support.  The uncoloured glass is Corella glass whereas the pale blue and amber are in English Muffle glass – we like the subtle contrast in textures this combination provides.

Our client commented:  ‘Thanks for everything to do with the glass - it's wonderful!’

Stained glass door panels – Sydenham, SE26

This pattern, made up in the 4 traditional pastel shades of coloured glass (English Muffle glass) is proving popular.  Here they are fitted behind laminated glass for protection – this is virtually invisible from the inside, but can be seen from the outside, due to the reflections.
Fitted in February 2013

For reference the colours in the main hexagon pieces are know as:
Princess Blue (4909)
Regency Gold (4917)
Scottish Heather (4905)
Salem Green (4915)

The smaller squares and triangles are in glass from a different range, as is the red border.

Stained glass repairs – Wandsworth

Stained glass Wandaworth
The right hand panel here had been completely destroyed as the burglar climbed in - there were good locks and an alarm. We removed the few remaining pieces, as well as the other 2 panels, and fitted 6.4 mm laminated safety glass into the openings – although it will break on an impact, the shards are held together by the polymer layer binding the 2 pieces of glass together - it is very difficult to penetrate.  The destroyed panel was replicated using the others as a pattern, and all 3 refitted behind the protective glass panes.  The glass is English Muffle, in clear and Champagne.

Wimbledon Stained glass

Wimbledon stained glass
We were asked to reproduce this pattern for our client, taken from similar houses locally.  The job included removing the ‘wire-cast’ glass panels that had been fitted in the past, and replacing them with 6.4mm thick laminated safety glass, for security.  We had to increase the depth of the rebates in the door by machining with a router to enable the laminated glass and the new stained glass panel to be fitted properly.  The uncoloured and amber glass are English Muffle.  The new work was then fitted behind the laminated glass and secured with beading

Stained glass door and side window– Merton Park

stained glass Merton Park
The stained glass in the door was badly deteriorated, and not very special, and the side panel had been lost.  Our client particularly wanted a blue glass border, and the use of the paler blue and pink in the centre of the panels adds interest.  Most of the glass is English Muffle, with detail in Waterglass, and rough rolled.

Leaded door panel, Dulwich

The centre panel of the door had been lost and replaced with textured glass.
We made and fitted a new centrepiece to the same pattern as the original,
copied from the neighbouring house, using uncoloured English Muffle glass.
We tried to ensure the texture and colour in the new piece were sympathetic to the rest of the glass in the door.

Stained glass door panel – West Norwood, SE25

This panel was a gift from daughter to mother, after the original rather plain leaded door panel came to the end of its life. Our clients, with whom we met several times during the course of the project, identified this pattern themselves, which we then set in an appropriate border. The border and the background (which is in fact a very pale amber) are in English Muffle glass. Fitted in December 2010.

Blackheath Stained glass

Pair of new leaded door panels using a mixture of English Muffle Glass and Sahara/Corella, with a red border with outer uncoloured border in Water Glass from Spectrum.  Client decided against a traditional painted centre, in favour of a leaded motif based on some of the stucco work in this Edwardian house in Blackheath, SE3.  Fitted in June 2010

Herne Hill Replica Stained Glass

Well, its almost a replica - we modified the pattern for the central panel slightly, but the main motif in the door and the side panels are faithfull to the patterns in neighbouring properties. There is a mixture of glass, with the uncoloured being English Muffle. 6 and 8mm wide lead is used. Our clients, who are rennovating the house, were kind enought to say 'Thanks for our amazing new windows and all your hard work' - its always nice to be appreciated!

Fitted, between the snowy spells in January 2010.

Blackheath Leaded Glass Panels

This pair of panels was fitted in time for Christmas 2009, for a client for whom we had worked previously. We like the double border, which gives good definition to the panels, which are made mainly in the pastel tints of English Muffle glass.  Waterglass is sued for the amber petals of the central flowers.

Art Deco style leaded glass

This uncoloured panel was produced from a clients idea, for him to install in a building under restoration. Its made up from 2 kinds of clear glass - Corella (main cental pieces and small edge pieces) and English Muffle (main border and central strip), using white flashed opal glass for the 3 triangular pieces. Overall size is around 610x570mm.

Bromley - leaded front door set

Installed September 2009, this set of 3 leaded panels replace a former (but possibly not original,) set in plain 'bobble' or pebble glass, where the centre circle had become badly bowed. They are in clear English Muffle glass with the amber strip in Corella, the high lights using ruby red Spectrum 'granite', rough rolled 'grape' from the same glass maker and a green from Wissmach.

These shots from the inside show the vertical strengthening bars, which do cross the pattern, however this is less obvious from the outside, and will be important to prevent bowing of this new panel.

The shadows are from the porch, which is not original to the house.
